One page, every classic formula

Choose a formula from the dropdown and the form adapts: one field for a pendulum, two for momentum, three for a projectile. Every result shows the substituted formula beneath the board, exactly like the rest of the manual, so you can check the working and not just the answer.

The formula families at a glance

Motion v = u + at, s = ut + ½at², v² = u² + 2as, free fall and projectiles. Forces F = ma, W = mg, F = mv²/r, τ = rF sin θ. Energy ½mv², mgh, Fd cos θ, P = W/t, ½kx². Matter & waves ρ = m/V, P = F/A, ρgh, v = fλ, T = 2π√(L/g). Electricity & heat V = IR, P = VI, series and parallel resistors, Q = mcΔT.

Worked example

  1. A 12 kg crate accelerates at 3.5 m/s² across the floor.
  2. Open Newton’s second law (F = ma) from the dropdown.
  3. F = 12 kg × 3.5 m/s² = 42 N.
  4. The board adds the force in kilonewtons and the mass it could lift.

How to use it

  1. Pick the formula from the dropdown — the input fields change to match it.
  2. Type your values in consistent units (SI units keep everything compatible).
  3. Read the headline result, the extra rows, and the substituted formula.
  4. Use a preset for a textbook example, or copy the page link to share your working.

Frequently asked questions

What value of g does the calculator use?

Standard gravity, g = 9.80665 m/s², in the weight, free-fall, projectile, pendulum, and potential-energy members. That is the ISO standard value at sea level, about 45° latitude.

How do I calculate kinetic energy?

KE = ½mv²: half the mass times the speed squared. A 2 kg object moving at 3 m/s carries 9 J. Doubling the speed quadruples the energy, which the extra row makes visible.

What is the difference between series and parallel resistance?

Series resistors simply add: R = R₁ + R₂ + R₃, so the total is always larger than any single resistor. Parallel branches add their reciprocals: 1/R = 1/R₁ + 1/R₂, so the total is always smaller than the smallest branch.

Does the projectile tool include air resistance?

No — it uses the ideal vacuum formulas R = v₀² sin 2θ / g and H = v₀² sin²θ / 2g, which match textbook problems. Real projectiles with air resistance fall short of these values.

Why is the pendulum formula only an approximation?

T = 2π√(L/g) assumes small swings. Up to about 15° of amplitude the error stays under half a percent; larger swings take slightly longer than the formula predicts.

Can I use it to check my homework?

Yes — that is the point of the substituted formula under every result. You see each of your numbers plugged in step by step, so a mistaken input is easy to spot against your own working.
