One page, every number format

Pick a tool from the dropdown and the form adapts. Words are spelled in modern American English without "and" — 1,234,567 becomes one million two hundred thirty-four thousand five hundred sixty-seven — and the parser accepts that same style back, hyphens, commas, "and", "minus", and "point two five" for decimals included.

Roman numerals and digit play

The Roman tool auto-detects direction: digits in, letters out; letters in, digits out. It converts the classic range I (1) to MMMCMXCIX (3999) using the subtractive pairs CM, CD, XC, XL, IX, IV, and flags non-canonical spellings like IIII. The digit tools sum digits to the digital root (a number and its digital root always share their remainder mod 9 — the old "casting out nines" check) and reverse digits to test palindromes.

Long division, shown honestly

The long division member does the grammar-school algorithm one digit at a time: bring down, divide, multiply, subtract, carry — each pass is a row in the table, with the quotient, remainder, exact decimal, and the verification line dividend = divisor × quotient + remainder.

Worked example

  1. Number to words: 1,234,567 → one million two hundred thirty-four thousand five hundred sixty-seven.
  2. Ordinal generator: 42 → 42nd, in words forty-second.
  3. Roman: 1987 → MCMLXXXVII; type it back and the tool returns 1987.
  4. Digit sum: 9875 → 29 → 11 → 2 (digital root 2, same remainder mod 9 as 9875).
  5. Long division: 748 ÷ 5 → 149 remainder 3, with all three passes in the table.

How to use it

  1. Pick the number tool from the dropdown.
  2. Type a number or words — every field updates live.
  3. Read the board: the primary result, the rows beneath it, and the formula line.
  4. Share or print from the buttons under the result; the link carries your values.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write 1,234,567 in words?

One million two hundred thirty-four thousand five hundred sixty-seven. This site spells in modern American style: hyphens between tens and ones (thirty-four) and no "and" before the final group.

How do Roman numerals work?

Letters carry values — I 1, V 5, X 10, L 50, C 100, D 500, M 1000 — and a smaller letter before a larger one subtracts: IV 4, IX 9, XL 40, XC 90, CD 400, CM 900. The tool converts 1 through 3999 and flags older non-canonical spellings like IIII for 4.

What is a digital root?

Add a number’s digits, then add the digits of that sum, repeating until one digit remains: 9875 → 29 → 11 → 2. The result always equals 1 + (n − 1) mod 9, which is why casting out nines once checked arithmetic by hand.

Does the number-to-words tool handle zero and negatives?

Yes: 0 spells "zero" and negative numbers spell with "minus" in front (minus forty-two). Decimals spell digit by digit after "point" — 3.14 is three point one four. The ceiling is 999,999,999,999,999, just under a quadrillion.

Why does Roman numeral conversion stop at 3999?

Standard Roman notation has no way to write 4000 and beyond without overlines (vincula) or other medieval extensions. Within 1–3999 every number has exactly one canonical spelling, so the conversion is unambiguous.

What is a palindromic number?

A number that reads the same forwards and backwards, like 12321 or 5. The reverse-digits member flips any whole number, tells you whether it is a palindrome, and shows the sum and difference with its reversal (adding a number to its reversal repeatedly is the classic path to a palindrome).
